On February 15, the Spartan boy’s swim team took on Grand Forks in a dual. This was also the last home meet for the boys. It’s tradition at the last home meet or game of every sport at Fargo North to honor the seniors. Senior members of the swim team this season include Caden Boutwell, Mason Engler, Tate Fisher, Payton Gabel, Quame Rauls, Clay Schultze, Aiden Schutt, Griffin Thurston, and Seamus Wicks.
The 2018-2019 has been extremely successful for the team and this last dual meet was no exception. The meet ended with a score of 142-44 in favor of the Spartans. With all the swimming events, the top spot was taken by Spartans including the 200 yard medley relay, the 200 IM, the 100 yard fly, the 200 yard free, the 50 free, the 500 yard free, the 200 yard free, the 100 yard back, and the 400 yard free. Diving was also successful with a second and third place finishes respectively. Captain Payton Gabel said, “we went undefeated in duals this season and we have a good record with invites as well.”
The next two events and final ones of the season for the swimmers are EDC on February 23 at the Hulbert Aquatic Center and the state tournament in Bismarck on March 1 and 2. With a great pre-season record, the Spartans are out to give it their best effort at EDC and state.
