The time has come, and I didn’t start the announcements without knowing that I would one day have to end. Doing the announcements was an eye-opening experience for me, knowing that any mistake I let go in the announcements will be shown to 700+ students within FNH.

However, it was probably one of the most fun things I’ve ever done at Fargo North. Showing up every day eighth period with Blake Anderson was a highlight of semester two, because of how fun it was for us two. Taking control of the announcements was one of the best decisions I’ve made, because it was so fun to try and set an example for better announcements for years to come. Knowing that I would be setting an example for many years to come was a big responsibility that was laid into my hands, but I think I did a pretty good job at showing that they don’t need to be mediocre, and if you have a little fun with it, it can go a long way.

Learning the system, travelling down to the library and talk to the librarians, talking to Ms. Clark and others was a fun experience, because I felt more involved with the school. Befriending Mr. Scott was also a great experience and shows that all staff of Fargo North can be cool, regardless of job or role within the school system.

If I could give any words of advice to anyone doing the announcements, it would be to just have fun and roll with it. Choose a partner that’ll do fun things alongside with you, and together you can impact the mornings of tired students in the right way. Don’t be lazy when you show up, and always come with a positive attitude. No one wants to see someone gloomy on the announcements, because that’ll just make everyone else gloomy. Have a move or gesture that sets you apart from everyone else and something that makes you unique, but don’t let it become lazy or uninteresting.

The joke’s we’d use were very cheesy and often times lame, but the use of something to get a smirk out of at least one student will impact their day in many ways. The goal is to deliver the announcements in a clear and honest way, but the use of comedy will brighten the often-boring mornings. If you want to keep it energized, find something that keeps everyone engaged, and something to look forward too, good or cheesy.

Lastly, I’ll remember this experience for the rest of my life, and some of the students will remember me too, and if I walked away with anything this semester, it’s that having fun when everyone is watching is always the way to go.
