Ishtar Mediterranean Review
Ishtar Medditeranean cuisine review (corona style)
Even though many restaurant lobbies are closed right now due to the novel coronavirus, many, if not all restaurants are still open for takeout and delivery. I highly encourage you to still order food from small businesses, in order to support them during these unprecedented times. This month, I ordered delivery from Ishtar Mediteranean Cuisine through the app, DoorDash. Delivery to this restaurant is also available through Postmates. Ishtar Mediteranean is located on 68 Broadway N, next to Juice It and is on the same block as Tea & Crepe.
This restaurant has a vast menu, and has Halal and vegetarian options. Ishtar Mediteranean is an Iranian based restaurant with other mediteranean foods. The menu includes Greek gyros, beef and chicken shawarma, falafel, lamb shank, tiropita, chunk lamb tikka, and kebabs. There also is a large amount of appetizers like hummus, dolma, samosa, baba ghanouge, and kuupa. Ishtar has beverage options, but many people are drinking beverages from home during this time in order to keep sanitation. I ordered the Greek gyro with chicken, and my family ordered the kebabs and falafel. We all liked the food a lot\; I especially liked the gyro, because there were many options for the entree itself, but also many side options like rice, hummus, falafel and french fries. I chose the french fries, which weren’t the most flavorful food, but it didn’t matter because the gyro was very flavorful.
Ishtar Mediteranean is open from 11am-9pm Monday through Thursday, 12pm-10pm on Friday through Saturday and 12pm-6pm on Sunday. These foods are definitely out of most people’s comfort zones, but if you want to try something new and diverse, I highly recommend eating from here. There’s options on the menu for everyone if you’re willing to try it out.
Many are probably worried about ordering out for sanitation purposes. The novel Coronavirus isn’t foodborne but it can sometimes last on the packages that the food is in, this is very unlikely but here’s what you should do in order to stay safe. Make sure you use no contact delivery. Many delivery services are offering a no contact delivery option, meaning the delivery person will leave your food on your doorstep as to avoid contact with other people. After the food is brought inside, put it on a separate plate and throw away the carton it came in. Once the food is plated and the cartons are thrown out, wash your hands for at least 20 seconds and avoid touching your face. Make sure to tip your delivery drivers well because they are still risking themselves to deliver your food.
