Pet Peeves: annoying things everyone could probably agree on
By Adelyne Johnson
A lot of people can probably agree that they have little things that annoy them or make them want to rip their hair out – Those things can be classified as pet peeves. I have made a list of those common peeves that make me, and many others insanely mad. And who knows, maybe some people will agree with me. If you happen to do any of these things listed ahead, please think about them, and reconsider. On that note, I plan on doing a sequence of things on my mind every month, whether that be more pet peeves, foods I can’t wait to try, or animals I wish I had. I have a lot to say.
#1: People that think they’re nonchalant.
People who think they’re nonchalant are arguably one of the most annoying types of people. For those who don’t know what being nonchalant is, it’s basically a person who lacks enthusiasm and interest. I can’t speak for others, but I admit that I try to act nonchalant from time to time. However, I don’t delete every form of social media, unadd everyone I have on SnapChat, and make every profile picture I have a black screen. That’s just mad annoying, don’t do that. Some people can probably agree that someone acting all high and mighty and a tish cocky can be very draining to be around, as it feels like they’re always one-upping you. I found a quote on a website I saw about a “nonchalant social media bio.” The quote says “Nonchalance is the ultimate form of rebellion against a chaotic world.” How would you feel after reading this on someone’s profile with the black profile photo and no photos or videos? Can we as a nation agree to stop the act?
#2: Double Dipping
I am a victim of double dipping, and (sometimes) getting violently ill afterwards. Don’t double dip! There are, however, a few exceptions to the rule. It’s only okay to double dip when the dipping sauce of choice is yours and yours only. I have heard many people lash out on their friends or family because they double dip in their ranch, or ketchup, or even chip dip. Imagine how many people have covid or some other sickness without knowing and spread it through double dipping, especially at large group events! Let’s agree to stop double dipping, and watch the covid cases decline.
#3: People who post dumb things online – unironically
Have you ever seen someone post a picture or video of themselves doing something that is really stupid and just makes you want to rip your hair out? Only because there is no way that someone would think that or do that? Great minds think alike! I hate seeing someone say something beyond dumb. It’s mostly on TikTok, which doesn’t help at all. Seeing a bunch of middle-aged women post videos saying they’ll overtake Gen Z is hilarious, because how can you take yourself seriously after that? Your kids will have to live with the fact that their mom is an international joke. They’ll end up having to flee the country with a new identity after that one. Or even better, people who spread misinformation in confidence. These people research topics on tiktok, then post their tiktok research on – you guessed it tiktok! Moral of the story, do some research, and think before you speak.
#4: When people hate things to an extreme
As you can see, I’m quite the hypocrite writing this. However, it’s only okay when I do it. It mostly starts with the whole Taylor Swift shebang. The back and forth between “I hate Taylor Swift” “I love Taylor Swift” really made me lose it. Admittedly, this is pretty ironic given the title of this peeve. But picture this: you’re at a restaurant and a football game is on a tv. All of a sudden, the guys sitting at the bar in Vikings jerseys throw their drinks at the bartender, jump out of their seats, and throw a childlike temper tantrum because the Packers tripped a player. Eat your food. Why are you doing all that? The Vikings are still up by 20! – offense intended, Packer fans.
