Pet Peeves 2: World Peace
By: Addy Johnson
The neverending list of things that just about tip me off my rocker continues. Just to reiterate, if you do any of the peeves listed, please rethink your actions and change for the better. Since I have gotten many people to nod their heads in affirmation of my opinions, I have decided to title this ‘World Peace,’ because these points could possibly stop long-lasting global conflicts.
#1: Doing The Dishes
I think most people can agree with this because I guarantee everyone hates sticking their hand in dirty food water to clean things. Sometimes, this water can reek, depending on the dish contents and the location of where you’re washing dishes. Hopefully, your sink at home doesn’t stink of food, because that indicates that you’ve got worse problems.
One of the most annoying things a person can do, though, is when you’re working on doing the dishes and your sibling or parents dump their mountain of dishes into the sink and smile. They always know what they’re doing.
#2: Slow walkers and Blockers
In the halls, instead of talking and putzing around, can we maybe pick up the pace and actually move? Unfortunately, it’s mostly freshmen. So, take this as a lesson on high school decorum. Don’t walk slowly, and don’t clump up in the busiest hallways and talk. A lot of us don’t care about who did what unless it’s people we know, but that’s irrelevant.
We just want to get to class to save ourselves a detention. Or being called out for being late. These often occurring ‘stop, talk, talk, stop’ will eventually lead to being flat-tired in the halls. My shoes have gone through so much flat-tiring that I’ve had to get 4 different pairs. This wouldn’t happen if we just picked up the pace and kept walking.
#3 Loud and Proud Chewers
This one, I feel, can be agreed upon by many people and potentially bring world peace – hence the title. When I am sitting at a table, eating my food in silence, or surrounded by stupidity and laughter, I do not want to hear your loud, chewy food being crushed with your trap agape. It is not that hard to eat with your mouth closed.
#4 Severely “Uneducated” People
Now, it’s okay to be uneducated about lots of things. We don’t know everything. I’m not sure we can know everything. However, can we all agree to drop the “book smart” and “math smart” argument? People often categorize themselves if they don’t know a lot of material in certain classes. If you don’t know a certain subject more than another, that’s fine. With enough help and encouragement, it will eventually come to you.
What peeves me, however, are those who use the book smart and math smart argument, but don’t do anything about it. Will you take the time to be better, or just let yourself lose? Also when people act like they know more than you. Like yes, you probably do know math better than me, but I didn’t care until you made it your personality.
