FPS and North Dakota DPI announced that PowerSchool would be replaced with Infinite Campus in 2027. PowerSchool – which is much loved in the FPS district- is a platform that keeps students' grades and assignments in check. Although, with the EBR implementation in the district, it made it hard to seamlessly address those grades. Because of that, Fargo Public Schools is getting rid of it. The alternative, however, is a better option because it doesn’t make EBR grading a pain to view. This new platform may also replace the dreaded Canvas, which also is a pain to navigate.
Fargo Public Schools has been using PowerSchool since 2011, so we’ve been able to access our information on that platform for 14 years. PowerSchool has been around for over 30 years and has helped many districts with student information. FPS may have used this as a reliable source without issues, until the recent security breach. It is now a timely switch since the cybersecurity audit released by NBC News stated that CrowdStrike showed PowerSchool did not take the necessary precautions to protect their users' information when the attack happened.
The PowerSchool replacement, Infinite Campus, will take its place in the summer of 2026, so this will really only impact current freshmen and sophomores. This new platform has over 30 years of experience in student information systems, and is already being used in 8 states; the state of Minnesota where it is based, Hawaii, South Dakota, Delaware, Nevada, Montana, Kentucky, and North Carolina, as well as the Northern Mariana Islands. North Dakota is being welcomed as the ninth state.
“This partnership ensures the NDDPI can achieve its goals of modernizing its data systems with a true statewide K12 data system for workflows and reporting, which will directly support educator and student success,” Ashton Faires, the leader of strategic marketing for Infinite Campus, said in a press release.
Knowing that PowerSchool was down for a while at the very end of the semester, it feels as if anything can be achieved better. The Infinite Campus states that the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction wants to transform North Dakota's education by fostering a culture of success. The NDDPI is proud to help its 120,000 students with this transformation, using their 3 core values; build relationships, cultivate opportunity, and inspire growth. There are high hopes that the new Infinite Campus will make everyone happier with an easier website that hosts both grades and courses.
