As we ring in the new year and leave behind some heinous fashion trends in 2024, we can also look ahead and predict what will come for the fashion industry in 2025.
2024 was a huge year for cheetah and or leopard print, which at first was cute, but like most trends, it became too much. It was on phone cases, purses, jeans, and jackets, oversaturating the industry with patterns. I don’t see the shift away from patterns coming anytime soon, though in 2025 I’m predicting a rise in more basic patterns: stripes, plaid, polka dots, etc. A route I see many young adults taking is dressing duller and more mature, which provides an opportunity for these patterns to be seen more.
Another trend seen in 2024 that has got to go is the excessive jewelry. Like the cheetah print, it was cute at first but eventually people started raiding thrift stores scavenging for any ‘chunky piece of jewelry’ they could find, layering it to the point where it doesn’t even make sense and it takes away from the rest of the outfit. The overconsumption and materialism of wearing illogical jewelry pieces just to wear them is honestly just chuegy. In 2025 I expect many young adults to come to their senses and try to tone down the amount of rings and necklaces and maybe focus on wearing one or two at a time. Sometimes the simpler the better.
What I hope most to see come out of 2025 though is independent style. An issue among the fashion world is people following “micro-trends.” This issue seemed to be at its peak in 2024 with trends like ‘coquette’, ‘office siren’, ‘pilates princess’, etc. It would be more beneficial for everyone if people just wore what they liked, and I don’t see a time better for it than at the start of the new year. Focus on building your closet with pieces you actually like and not something that will ‘go out of style’ in a couple of months. Like icon Bianca Jagger said, “Style is knowing what suits you, who you are, and what your assets are. It’s accepting it all.”
` In summary, I’m excited to see what 2025 brings the fashion industry and I hope it’s better than 2024, until next time sincerely, your self appointed fashion pro.
