Boy’s Hockey: North High defeat Grafton in Stunning Blowout

Jimmy Johnson

Friday, December 7th, Grafton met Fargo North at the coliseum. Early in the season, teams fight to set the tone, North High had been shaky as of their first few games, but certainly looked in form against Grafton, as they picked up their first win of the season scoring 5 goals to Grafton’s 1 goal.

The first period of play made a statement for North High as they scored 2 goals to none. The offensive line had good chemistry as they moved up the ice, creating opportunities while keeping up with some relentless defense.

In the second period, North High truly turned on the jets, soaring past Grafton with 3 consecutive goals.  There were a multitude of breakaways by North High, great passing and vision sending the boys to the 5-0 lead, only to have 1 goal answered back late in the period.

Goalie Luke Olson, was not intimidated coming into this game, making 22 saves, he boasted a 96% save percentage certainly doing his part for the team’s success. The 3rd period was all defense, there were no goals scored however North did make some good plays and created some opportunities. Yet the defense came in to seal the game, check after check, most of this game was played on Norths offensive end.

Now with the first win down, North looks to keep the same energy and transfer it to more success down the road. If they come out with that confidence and solid teamwork as they always do, the team will keep seeing W’s on their record sheet.
