We don’t always need to be grateful for the big and obvious things in life. Sometimes, it’s good to stop and be grateful for the small things.
Having a good set of pens can really help improve your quality of life. After all, they are used on a daily basis. I personally get much satisfaction from writing now that I have a good pen set with a variety of colors. The ink flows across the page smoothly, but with just enough traction to grip. I have a wide assortment of colors that I can use to make important words or concepts stand out. I honestly used to not pay much attention to my writing utensils until a teacher pointed out how much she enjoyed her own. Now, I’m a pen connoisseur.
Food is another wonderful thing to be grateful for. It is important for a variety of reasons, one being that it releases endorphins, the feel good hormone. Although I am grateful for all the food, I’m especially thankful for tomatoes. I was introduced to tomatoes by a coworker who told me about how much she loves to eat thinly sliced tomatoes on toast. Since then, I’ve been hooked. I’ve been putting tomatoes on everything. My breakfast of eggs and toast now includes tomatoes. My sandwiches include tomatoes. I’ve even been putting it on tortilla chips. Summer was tomato heaven, because I was surrounded by all the tomatoes from the family garden. Lately, tomatoes have been more scarce. Therefore, I’m especially grateful for the days that include a tomato. If anyone felt like being evil and throwing tomatoes at me, the joke would be on them, because then I’d have more tomatoes. (I would like to clarify that I do NOT eat plain tomatoes. That’s gross.)
There is a plant overlooking my room. I am both grateful for and proud of him. Out of the 4 plants I have tried to raise, he is the only one that has survived. I am unsure how, because I often forget to take care of him. But he is a strong plant with an even stronger will to survive. I especially like my plant, because he looks beautiful and therefore adds to my room. He also provides me with oxygen. Thanks plant.
Finally, I am grateful for my water bottle. For years I struggled to find a water bottle that I liked. When I did, I’d then unfortunately lose it. R.I.P. to all my past water bottles sitting in the lost and found. Luckily, I currently have a water bottle I love that I haven’t lost yet. It holds 32 ounces of water, which is great because then I don’t have to fill it up as often. The straw is life saving, because it makes me less likely to choke. Although, sometimes I still manage to do so, because I’m a talented human being.
Sometimes it can be challenging to find something to be grateful for, but maybe that’s because you’re looking for the big things in life. However, you don’t often have to look far when you begin to notice all the small blessings surrounding you every day.
