Carson Critchley (21) ready for a pass at the three point line

The Fargo North boys’ varsity game last Friday, Jan. 31, faced off against Grand Forks Central in the Spartan Dome. Grand Forks Central was a force to be reckoned with, for they had defeated Davies, who has had an impressive year so far. The Grand Forks team ran out onto the court to warm up dawning their gold and maroon uniforms, but as they started, North’s team showed up in their pinstripe pants. At 7:30 p.m., the game started with a tip off, which went to North.
There was a lot of energy coming from the bleachers and the crowds chanting for their team to get the upper hand by the end of the first half. With the score being so close, the most decisive points were the free throws. It seemed that the Grand Forks rowdy crowd had the reverse effect it wanted by firing up the Spartan’s offense to push harder to get the lead.
Throughout the first half, the Grand Forks team was behind for most of the time but turned things around and was back on top for a bit. However, North regained their lead and the half ended with the score being 37-33 in favor of the Spartans.
At the start of the second half, both teams seemed to find their rhythm. As the time was running out, the intensity rapidly increased with every foul and shot made. With fouls stacking up against Grand Forks, their team called time outs to try to get things in order, but it failed, giving many needed, free throw points to the Spartans. When the time ran out and both teams were at 56 points, the clock for overtime started. By the end of overtime, the Spartans clenched the victory with 75 points for the Spartans and 70 points for Grand Forks Central.
