Keith Lehman named as new head girls track and field coach

Throughout 2020, there have been some big changes. Many of these changes involve our own school and activities. One new thing you may not have heard about is the new head coach of the girls track team, Keith Lehman, or as some may know him, Mr. Lehman.
Lehman will be taking over the head coach position previously held by Talia Butery. Butery is the current girls swim coach here at North. It has been said that she stepped down from the track position to continue coaching swim at the club level. The swim season overlaps into the spring track season, which is why she was unable to stay as head track coach. A respectable decision.
Lehman, although he is a newer teacher, is not new to the coaching scene. He has also been coaching cross country at North as an assistant boys coach. Even before his coaching career started, he had gained a lot of running experience. It all started between sixth and seventh grade when his dad beat him in a race. This early defeat jump-started his need to run fast. He then continued to run in high school, which helped his training to continue on over the years. All of that work must have paid off because look at him now; head coach of the Fargo North Spartans Girls Track team AND a coach for cross country too.
While there is still quite a while until spring sports start, Coach Lehman is ready for it all. He’s ready for whatever will be thrown at him with the 2021 season beginning in February.
“If you’re confident, there is nothing to be afraid of,” Lehman commented.
Now those are some wise words that we should all listen to. It seems as though Butery left him with a great girls team, which will hopefully make this transition of coaches easier. It may be hard to get things going again after not having a 2019 season, but knowing Lehman, he will find a way to make it work. Congratulations to Coach Lehman and good luck to the track team this spring!
