This year was an exciting year for Fargo North girls’ swimming and diving. They have a D1 commit in Addison Cerney, who also happened to be EDC senior of the year; EDC Champion Harper Meyer for diving; 7th-grade sensation Unna Nelson; and Coach of the Year Talia Butery.
Addison Cerney defended her 100-yard backstroke title and placed third in the 100-yard butterfly. After committing, she will be taking her talents to California State University Bakersfield next year. Cerney has been swimming ever since she was little and said, “Swimming has been my life for the past 10 years.” She has long been committed to the sport and has shown what she can do.
won EDC coach of the year. She is known as a fantastic coach, and all the girls love her. Butery has had a long history of swimming and coaching. She has a craft for the sport and helps develop swimmers to be the best they can be. Butery was also nominated for National Coach of the Year earlier this year.
Harper Meyer ended her high school swimming career on a high note. She had an amazing season this year. She won EDC with a score of 375.5 points and made the all-EDC Team. She will forever be an EDC champion. She is coached by Peyton Ekman, who was a D1 diver at St. Thomas University. “[Meyer] is one of the best leaders and all-around teammates,” said Butery.
Upcoming swim sensation seventh grader Unna Nelson did amazing this year for North. In her first year with North, she qualified for State. She placed 23rd in the 200-Yard Freestyle and 8th in the 100-Yard Breaststroke. I have swam with Unna at Red Dragons Swim Club, and all I have to say is that she is an amazing swimmer, an amazing teammate, and a good person.
Even though North placed 11th in the state, there is much to look forward to in the future. North has tons of talent, and the future is very bright for the Fargo North Girls Swim Team. Everyone should be excited to watch them next season.
