Before reading this article further, I need you to stop thinking rationally. I am going to take you into a world of sports like no other. A world where the long jump is measured in centimeters, a world where the average lap around a racetrack is 20 seconds, a world where the athletes have no problematic political opinions because they have no opinions at all. I’m talking about the world of marble sports.
Marble sports is exactly what it sounds like: there’s a bunch of marbles that compete against each other in various sporting events for medals, records, trophies, and marble glory. Yes, it is true that marbles are just tiny balls of glass that have no consciousness and that the results of the events are completely random, but going forward we will pretend that isn’t the case.
Remember when I told you to stop thinking rationally? Yeah, these marbles are incredible athletes who put their all into these sports. They train daily, strategize, make technical maneuvers, and have personal coaches. They are truly the best of the best.
I get that this might seem like a weird concept, but that’s because it is one. However, if you can let yourself forget about the absurdity of what is happening, it becomes one of the most exhilarating sports to watch ever! I am not the type of person to watch sports at all, but there’s just something different about these marbles competing against each other that draws you in. Seeing how long they can stay in a funnel or how far they can roll across a balance beam, it is frankly incredible how entertaining it all is.
So where does one find such sports? It’s time for me to introduce you to the YouTube channel Jelle’s Marble Runs. They are the self-proclaimed “marble masters.” They hold competitions like the Marble League, which is based on the Olympics in that the athletes compete in a variety of different kinds of sports.
There’s Marbula One which is based on Formula One, there’s the Sand Marble Rally which sees marbles racing on rough, sandy terrain, and much more! There are thirty-two different teams to root for, my personal favorite team is the Crazy Cat’s Eyes, but other fan favorites include the O’rangers, Team Momo, and the Savage Speeders. Picking a team and cheering them on is so much fun, and people will even play fantasy sports with these teams as well!
The best part about marble sports for me is that the lack of humans makes it a really great escape from reality. Sitting down and immersing yourself into the world of marbles for a few minutes is one of the greatest ways I can get myself to relax. For a moment I can forget about whatever’s stressing me and just root for my favorite teams as they make their way through an obstacle course as fast as possible.
So the next time you find yourself with the opportunity to sit back and enjoy some silly entertainment, I greatly recommend looking up Jelle’s Marble Run on YouTube and giving it a watch! I think you’ll find yourself surprisingly enthralled in only a few short minutes.
